As Chair of The Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration, I tabled a study on the Global Compact on Migration. The Committee heard from 18 witnesses and received 16 briefs, all encouraging Canada to participate in these compacts.
Not a single one agreed with Andrew Scheer and the Conservatives that these compacts would impact Canada’s sovereignty and control over our own immigration laws.
The Compact is a political declaration, not a legally binding treaty, and is critical to international collaboration to protect our immigration system.
