One of the highlights of my role as an MP is the opportunity I have to meet every month with informed and engaged young adults from Don Valley West who make up my Constituency Youth Council (CYC). At each of our meetings, a pair of young people take their turn presenting on a key issue in federal politics that is important to them.
The informative discussions and debates my CYC and I have, provides me with their crucial perspective so I can better understand how our government’s policies can be more reflective of the unique and important needs of young Canadians. Our discussions range from how Canada can best tackle the issue of global climate change to how we care for refugees and asylum seekers to how we can advance meaningful reconciliation with our Indigenous peoples.
I am proud of the time that my Youth Council members take to become informed and involved in the political process to help find solutions to our country’s most pressing issues.
