The answer was great: $30 million in funding over five years, followed by $10 million per year, to support Canadian LGBTQ2 orgs advance human rights and life in general for LGBTQ2 in developing countries. Canada making a difference.

Speaking in Support of M-190
For important work such as the Nation Housing Strategy to continue and be effective, we require a large skilled labour force. That is why I was pleased to speak in support of Motion 190, which would begin a study on the labour shortages of the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area (GTHA) and in particular the impact on the construction industry. This study could provide valuable insights into how our government’s labour market programs could better support the needs of Canada’s growing economy.

Canada Summer Jobs in Don Valley West
With rumours of adjournment, this may be my last opportunity to thank this year’s Pages for their tremendous support, good humour and patience.
Some of them may be employed this summer through the Canada Summer Jobs program. Sixty-three employers in Don Valley West will receive over $800,000 through CSJ, creating quality summer employment for students.
They will gain valuable experience working for non-profits and small businesses like the Canadian Film Centre, the Toronto Inner-City Rugby Foundation, Plan International, Habitat for Humanity, the CNIB and Holland Bloorview hospital.
They will also work with a number of religious organizations, including: The Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Toronto, the Islamic Society of Toronto, the Salvation Army, St. Clement of Ohrid Macedonian Orthodox Cathedral, and Trinity Presbyterian Church, York Mills.
CSJ students gain the experience and job skills needed for their future; our employers and communities gain the young talent they need to continue to succeed and thrive. May they all have a safe and happy summer.

70th Anniversary of Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre
I rise in the House today to mark the 70th anniversary of Toronto’s Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre.
Founded in Don Valley West in 1948 as a hospital for veterans, Sunnybrook has a proud history and a distinguished legacy of caring for Canada’s war heroes. Affiliated with the University of Toronto, it continues to stand as a symbol of our nation’s gratitude to our armed forces.
Over the past 70 years, Sunnybrook has grown into one of Canada’s largest and most dynamic health care facilities and has become a leader in patient care, education and research.
Sunnybrook Veterans Centre, working in close partnership with Veterans Affairs Canada, remains the largest veterans care facility in the country. Today, it is home to some 475 veterans from World War II, the Korean War and modern conflicts, who receive state-of-the-art, specialized care.
We look forward to Sunnybrook’s next 70 years and the lasting impact the hospital will continue to have on Canadian veterans, their families, as well as the wider community.
Presenting Petitions in the House of Commons
"Mr. Speaker, I rise to present two petitions in the House today.
The first petition was forwarded to me by Megan and Kyle, two students at St. Bonaventure Catholic School in Don Valley West. They are part of a larger initiative called the Women at the Heart of Peace campaign. These very engaging students came to Ottawa on May 2, along with over 40 other youth from across the country, as part of a national youth delegation delivering signatures from the campaign to Ottawa.
They request that the House take all the necessary actions to dedicate more of Canada's gross national income to international assistance in supporting women working for peace."
As we mark the beginning of Passover, I'd like to extend my very best wishes to members of the Jewish Community in Don Valley West and across our country. Passover is a time to reflect on the story of the Jewish people's journey from slavery to freedom, and their persistence in the face of persecution and threat. It's also a chance to celebrate family, to celebrate the peace and harmony we experience in Canada, and to pray for peace throughout the world. From my family to yours, Chag Sameach.
Today marks Good Friday, and it's the beginning of the Holiest three days of the year for Christians; and as Christians around Don Valley West, across Canada, and around the world begin to celebrate Easter, I want to wish them all the very best. Spring is emerging around us, and as the Earth warms, so we're reminded by the Easter message that evil will always be overcome by goodness and death will always be overcome by life. I want to wish all of you from my family to yours a very Happy Easter.
Celebrating CNIB's 100th Anniversary
Today marks the one-hundredth anniversary of the CNIB.
The CNIB has provided innovative programs and vital services for the blind and visually impaired and advocated on behalf of all those with vision loss for over a century.
Technologies and attitudes have evolved since 1918, but the CNIB has never strayed from its original mission. With Canadians who are affected by blindness and thousands of volunteers and passionate supporters, it continues to work to change what it means to be blind.
L'INCA souligne cette occasion historique avec une année de célébrations. Tout au long de 2018, des événements célébreront les succès, la générosité et l'innovation de ses bénévoles, son personnel et ses défenseurs.
I salute the hundreds of employees and volunteers who work year-round at the CNIB headquarters, in Don Valley West, whose efforts, have transformed this iconic Canadian institution into what it is today.
We look forward to the next 100 years, and the lasting impact CNIB will have on Canadian society and on the lives of blind and partially sighted Canadians."
-Rob Oliphant, M.P.
